KATHY WILSON
Founder & President
Kathy is a former collegiate (University of North Carolina @ Chapel Hill) and professional (Melbourne Tigers-Melbourne Australia) basketball player, and Division-I women's basketball assistant coach (The University of Mississippi for two years, and The George Washington University - as the Recruiting Coordinator - for five years). As a former stand-out athlete, Kathy knows firsthand what it is like to end an athletic career and not have the answer to the question, "What's next?" This motivated her, in 2003, to found Unlimited Success Sports in order to address the various needs of athletes, coaches, and others in sports.
Kathy received her BA in Radio, Television & Motion Pictures (presently Journalism & Mass Communications) in 1988 from the University of North Carolina @ Chapel Hill. In 2001 she returned to school to receive her Graduate Certificate in Leadership Coaching, and in 2002 she received her Masters in Organizational Management, both from The George Washington University. Kathy is a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), the Black Coaches Association (BCA), and Yes!Circle. And she serves as Membership Chair on the Board of the Washington, DC chapter of Women In Sports & Events (WISE).
Kathy has managed to merge her success and experience in athletics, as a player and coach, with her expertise and skills in the areas of Personal Empowerment and Leadership Development to create a unique niche. Whether speaking, providing coaching services, doing recruiting presentations, or imparting post-career planning strategies, Kathy uses a balanced blend of her understanding of the world of sports and practical personal development and leadership strategies to advocate for transformation in the lives of athletes and coaches.
"I am passionate about sports. But there are not nearly enough legitimate services to provide specific and much needed support for athletes and coaches. Thus, they end up getting a lot of bad guidance and bad advice. My business fills a very unique niche. My clients know I care, they know that I know what I am talking about, and they trust me to support and advise them."
Kathy considers her business a personal service business, not a sports business, because she deals with athletes and coaches on a personal level and works with them to develop a deep self-awareness that helps them to deal with challenges and crisis, to prepare for the future, and excel in their personal and professional lives.
"If you don't know sports, people in sports won't listen, period. And they don't trust many people outside sports because they believe everyone wants something from them. Communication and relationship building is very important. And because of my background, I've been very successful in these areas. My clients know I have their best interest at heart, and that's how I'm able to work successfully with them."
